How To Store RugsOne of the great things about rugs - is that they are a way to add real style & comfort to your home, and are a great way to help decorate your room to your own taste - but they're a form of decoration which can be taken with you if you move house. If you're moving house, and you have a need to put your rugs into storage, then follow these simple rug storage tips to ensure no damage occurs to your rugs. Store rugs in the right environmentMake sure that the area the rugs are being stored in, is dry, cool, and with minimum natural light. If the rug is stored in a damp environmnent, then this isn't good for obvious reasons, but continued warmth can also be a bad thing for rugs, as can continued exposure to natural sunlight - as this can cause fading. When your rug is in use, then of course natural light cannot be avoided, but minimizing natural light when the rug is not in use, is a good idea to help prolong the life or the rug. Never Fold Rugs - Always RollIf you fold a rug you may get a permanent crease, so always roll them. It's best to roll the rug with the pile facing inwards. Place the rug flat on a clean floor or surface, and simply roll it. Then completely wrap the mug with a muslin material (or any breathable fabric) & secure with a strong adhesive tape. A breathable material such as muslin is best - however if the rug is going to be stored in a particularly damp environment, then wrap in a polyurethane sheet instead. Don't store rugs on the floorIt's always a better idea to store your rug off the floor if possible, away from crawling insects & rodents looking for a nice comfy rug to cuddle up into or to eat! Also if the storage area happens to have a flood caused by a burst pipe or a spillage - your rug will be a lot safer stored above floor level.
